Acknowledging and appreciating the artists that live in our vicinity is essential to ensuring the longevity of all fields of the arts. The arts flourish not just in distant havens such as Paris, New York, or Tokyo, but also in the homes of our neighbors in Philadelphia. Our talented membership includes guitar builders, composers, instructors, professional performers, and college professors. This annual concert is our homage to the many talented members of the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society.

We invite you to join us for the concert and stay for our post concert Holiday Party where you can meet other members and local artists and celebrate the holiday season.

Featuring performances by: Penn-Hanrahan Duo (John Penn & Dan Hanrahan); Jim Hontz; Philip Smith; Matthew Lavanish; Dulcet Guitar Duo (Alex Pollock & Caroline Ck); PCGS Concert Ensemble; Keith Calmes; Kevin J. Cope; Gillead Trio; Brendan Evans

Stanley Alexandrowicz Concert in Lambertville, October 22

October 19th, 2016 by bob No comments »

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

Please join me on Saturday October 22 for my program “Romantic and Contemporary Masters” at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Lambertville NJ. My recital will feature virtuoso guitar works by 19th Century master guitarist-composers Ivan Padovec, J.K. Mertz, Luigi Legnani, Johann Dubez, and Contemporary compositions by today’s master-composers: Maestro Robert W. Butts, Paul Wilkinson, Kendall Kennison, and Ernst Bacon. Two premieres highlight the program: the NJ Premiere of British composer Paul Wilkinson’s poignant and atmospheric “A Walk on Fort Island,” and the NJ Premiere of Baltimore composer Kendall Kennison’s  phantasmagorical “Guitar Sonata #1”.  “Composer Emeritus” Robert W. Butts’ beautiful and virtuosic “Early Morning Suite” —which will bring the concert to a rousing finale!

Rupert Boyd Recording Project

October 13th, 2016 by bob No comments »

Dear Friends:

BOYD MEETS GIRL RECORDING.

Laura and I are very excited to go into the studio in two weeks time to record our debut album together as Boyd Meets Girl. Thank you to all the donors who have already made a contribution to this project. We have raised over 50% of the costs, but still need to raise the remainder of the funds. All donations are fully tax-deductible, and we would be most appreciative of contributions of any size (and as they say in the busking world, it doesn’t matter if you donate a little or a lot, so you may as well donate a lot…). This is a very special project for us, and we thank you in advance for considering to help make it a reality.

FANTASIAS.

My album Fantasías has continued to receive media attention. While Soundboard described the variety and order of the repertoire as “peculiar in the extreme”, American Record Guide called the album “a delightful program of rarely heard works, beautifully performed and arranged in a truly satisfying order”. If anyone has had a chance to listen to the full album, and has any thoughts, I’d love to know what you think.

The album is available for downloadstreaming, and in physical CD format here:http://www.rupertboyd.com/Fantasias.html

All best wishes for the Fall (north) // Spring (south),

Rupert Boyd
