Carol Hohauser-Nizza and Christopher Freitag, Recital in Ridgewood for Project Backpack

Flutist Carol Hohauser-Nizza and guitarist Christopher Freitag will perform music by Mauro Giuliani, Bela Bartok, Astor Piazzolla, and an anonymous English composer along with solo selections. The recital is a benefit for Project Backpack, who provide school supplies for needy children. There is no admission charge but a free-will offering will be welcomed.

Please join internationally renowned “soprano extraordinaire” Dominika Zamara and myself for a recital of arias, songs, and guitar solos this Wednesday at beautiful Grunin Center for the Arts at Ocean County College, New jersey!
Featured will be:
1) Romantic lieder by Croatia’s greatest 19th Century composer-guitarist Ivan Padovec (as recorded on our recent world-premiere CD “Ivan Padovec: Works for Guitar and Soprano” – Sheva Collection Recordings, Italy).
2) Solo works of the Romantic era’s greatest guitar virtuosi: Napoleon Coste (France), Johann Kaspar Mertz (Hungary), Johann Dubez (Vienna).
3) Contemporary composer-conductor Maestro Robert W. Butts’ beautiful, touching, and virtuosic “Early Morning Suite” (dedicated, premiered, and soon-to-be-recorded by today’s performer).
4) Famous operatic arias by Vincenzo Bellini (Casta Diva – from the opera “Norma”), Antonín Dvořák (Song to the Moon – from the opera “Rusalka”), and Georges Bizet (Habanera – from the opera “Carmen”) will top off the performance!

Mertz in meinem Herzen is a program of solo guitar works of the nineteenth-century Hungarian guitarist-composer Johann Kaspar Mertz.  The works in the program range from quaint, artful character pieces to dazzling opera fantasies.  All of which comprise a riveting collection of virtuosic nineteenth-century salon music.  Please, join me for a wonderful evening of nineteenth-century guitar music.

Recital and master class featuring soprano, Charlotte Mundy, and guitarist, Jordan Dodson, April 3

The recital is entitled “The Guitar Songs of Elliot Cole and John Dowland.”  Elliot Cole is a young and prolific composer who has written some engaging works for Charlotte and Jordan; and, specifically, a new work to be premiered on April 3

Following the recital, there will be a master class from 3-4pm featuring two of our student, voice and guitar duos:  Claire Tsiporukha (soprano) and Christopher Zak performing two songs by John Dowland; Alethea Wilhelm (mezzo) and Carmine Scordo performing two songs by Ramon Carnicer (1789-1855).

Sunday, April 3, from 2-3pm in Jed Leshowitz Recital Hall (John J. Cali School of Music – Montclair State UniversityThe entire event from 2-4pm is free and open to the public.
