Sharon Isbin’s dazzling technique and lyrical interpretations have made her one of the true masters of classical guitar. She returns to 92Y with a continent-hopping program including selections from Howard Shore’s gorgeous, evocative score for Martin Scorcese’s The Departed and a revisiting of Tan Dun’s Seven Desires for Guitar, with its captivating blend of Chinese and flamenco influences. Isbin gave the world premiere of the work — which Tan Dun composed for her — on the 92Y stage in 2002.
She will be joined by one of the classical guitar world’s rising stars, Colin Davin, who studied with Isbin at Juilliard, and who American Record Guide called “The real thing — a player with a virtuoso’s technique, a deeply expressive musicianship, and a probing imagination.”
The program will also include a selection of Spanish and Latin American classical guitar pieces, making for a concert sure to be filled with brilliance, color and rhythmic fire.
